 Scripture:

Psalm 122:1 – I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord!”

 Reflection – Invitation

Psalm 122 is a prayer for peace in Jerusalem. It is easily adapted to be a prayer for any town, city, nation or our world. The Bible is clear; there is a strong connection between people’s individual faith practices and the peace of the people of the land. I never think God punishes us for failing to pray. I believe when we fail to pray, we lose sight of God, and peace pays a price.

Inviting someone to church is not easy. But it is right now. You can go to the upcoming worship event and use the invite button. You can scroll down and find your friends who do not have a church or who are estranged from their church. We all need a little encouragement sometimes. Your invitation may be just what they need!

Some people have said to me ‘I’m not on Facebook’. Let me be clear, like most websites, you do not have to a logon to view content (although you do have to be on Facebook to invite others). From your web browser, simply search on ‘Farmersville United Methodist Church Ohio’. On my browser our Facebook page comes up as the fourth item. Select it, then find either the ‘events’ button and click on it, or find the ‘more’ button, and then select ‘events’ from the drop-down box. Let your friends and family know you do not need to have a logon on Facebook to watch an event or video.

There has always been peace in that simple phrase, ‘I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord’. The peace imparted to individuals through the practice of worship and devotion becomes peace in the world around us. Take time to this week to increase peace in the world by inviting someone to worship with us. And even if they do not attend, they may be happy to have been invited.

Search your contacts, search your Facebook friends list, search your heart. I know there is someone out there who will be ‘glad’ when you invite them into the house of the Lord.

 Prayer

O Holy Spirit, most certainly you want peace for us, so we might enjoy this world we live in. Help us find ways to be fruitful in our ministries and to witness to our faith, even if it is just a simple invitation. God, lead me to take time today to find someone who could use this encouragement. And may this small act increase peace in the world. Amen.
