Scripture for reflection – Genesis 18:13-14
The Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, and say, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?’.
Is anything too wonderful for the Lord? At the set time I will return to you, in due season, and Sarah shall have a son.”
Reflection – Is Anything too wonderful for the Lord?
Is anything too wonderful for the Lord? I suspect if I meditated on this question throughout the day, my day and my attitude would be greatly improved.
We need the sun to warm our planet. But God also gives us beautiful sunsets and sunrises. Some in our congregation take time to post pictures on social media.
We need food to energize our bodies. But God also provides wonderful aroma, the enjoyment of taste, and a community in which we can be nurtured in our hearts as well.
We need work to sustain ourselves and our families. But God also calls us to enjoy our work, to take pride in it, and to develop relationships through it.
We need people to work in an economy which produces food, clothing, shelter, furniture, education, travel opportunities, and an endless array of comforts. But we also get a community that cares for us, helps us build character, discover our gifts, and set our course into an exciting future.
At the end of the day, we need rest, and so God also dims the lights, quiets our homes, and calms our hearts with the slow arc of the moon and the stars.
We have needs in this life. God knows that. But we also have hopes and dreams that God wants to help us fulfill. We can trust God to bring us amazing moments and opportunities in an amazing life because, ‘Is anything too wonderful for the Lord?’.
Prayer
God who provides for our needs and well beyond, we give you thanks for the generous outpouring of your love into our hearts and our lives. Today, help me keep an eye open for the blessings you provide which go well beyond necessity, so I might both believe and proclaim, ‘Is anything too wonderful for the Lord?’ Amen
