VERY IMPORTANT WORSHIP UPDATES!
We are offering in-person worship this Sunday, October 4th at 11:00am. If you want to attend, please see below link. The Facebook Live service will remain at 9:30am.
In-Person Worship Reservation – Join us In Person at 11:00am
We need to have certain restrictions on our gathering for worship, including a reservation system. Most of the details you need will be on the form at this link https://forms.gle/M4D6i7ZqjiREJCwD7. The system will close at noon on Thursday. Please contact the church if you have any other questions regarding in-person worship.
Scripture – Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up the other; but woe to one who is alone and falls and does not have another to help. Again, if two lie together, they keep warm; but how can one keep warm alone? And though one might prevail against another, two will withstand one. A threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Reflection – Community That Aids and Grows
Once when my young family moved to a new church, one of the girls of the church who was about my older daughter’s age, brought her friends over to meet my daughter. Some of these girls became her life-long friends. I will be forever grateful to that girl= for her act of hospitality toward my daughter.
Was there ever a time in your life where one friend made all the difference in the world? Maybe it was one person who helped you survive the social side of school. Maybe it was a spouse helping you in a tough spot. Maybe it was a best friend helping you move something or deal with something you could not deal with on your own.
I love this passage, because it is yet another reminder in the Bible that we are communal beings. I also really appreciate it because while it extols the virtues of two being better than one, at the very end it encourages us to not stop there. Keep growing the community. A threefold cord (wait, weren’t we just talking about two?) is not quickly broken.
Can you take a moment today to give thanks for your friends, your family, and anyone who helped you get through a time in life? And can you take time to consider how to help someone connect who may be disconnected? God calls us to expand the circle.
Prayer:
God, you are Father, Son and Holy Spirit. You are a community of three in one. But you did not stop there, calling all of humanity into your circle of love. We give you thanks for communities which bring us the joys and the challenges that help energize us and make life worth living. Help us be grateful for those we love and who love us, and to take time to connect with those who could use a connection today. Amen.
